Clio Sports Reveals 2019 Grand Winners at Sixth Annual Awards Ceremony

Skateboarding Legend Tony Hawk Received a Lifetime Achievement Award, Presented by SNL’s Michael Che, at Event Hosted by ESPN’s Katie Nolan

New York, NY—June 14, 2019 Clio Sports, the competition honoring creative excellence in sports marketing and advertising on a global scale, announced the exceptional entrants that earned the coveted Grand Clio at the sixth annual Clio Sports Awards from Capitale Ballroom in New York City last night.

To kick off the ceremony, attended by leading sports executives, advertising creatives, league commissioners, athletes and other industry titans, host Katie Nolan joked that, “it has been a great year in sports. A lot has happened, Tiger Woods finally made his comeback, then again, so did the measles.”

Saatchi & Saatchi LA’s work for Toyota Motor Corporation was the ceremony’s big winner, earning a total of three Clio Sports Grands. Creative Director Mark Carolan accepted for “Start Your Impossible,” which earned the trophy for Integrated Campaign and for “@SeeLikeMenna,” the grand winner in Partnerships, Sponsorships & Collaborations, taking a moment to recognize the campaign’s star Menna Fitzpatrick and her incredible success as a skier with just 3% vision. For “NBC + Paralympics,” the grand winner in Innovation, Amy Petersen, Group Media Director, was on hand to receive the team’s statue.

Skateboarding legend Tony Hawk took the stage to accept the 2019 Clio Sports Lifetime Achievement Award, presented to him by “Saturday Night Live” Weekend Update Co-Anchor Michael Che. In accepting the award, Hawk said, “skateboarding was the furthest thing from cool when I was a kid.” Continuing that, “any sort of mainstream success is just insane to me.”

Of the night, Clio president Nicole Purcell remarked: “Clio Sports is so proud to celebrate everyone that sets out to raise the bar for sports marketing and advertising. It’s an honor to spend an evening with the hard working and talented teams whose award-winning work shined a spotlight on diversity, innovation, nostalgia, inclusion, equality, iconic athleticism and so much more this year.
